Seamless steel tube is widely used in oil and gas, boiler, chemical, power, machinery and pipeline engineering. Unlike welded pipe, it has no welding seam, higher pressure resistance, temperature resistance and structural stability. This article introduces the complete seamless steel tube manufacturing process and core production technology in detail.

1. Raw Material Preparation

The main raw material is solid steel round billet. Strict chemical composition and physical performance inspection are required before production. Surface defects, cracks and rust on the steel billet shall be removed by grinding and cutting to ensure no impurities affect the finished pipe quality. Qualified round billets are sorted and stored for heating production.

2. Rotary Heating of Steel Billet

The round billet is sent into a rotary heating furnace for uniform high-temperature heating. The temperature is strictly controlled according to steel grade, usually between 1100℃ and 1250℃. Even heating ensures good plasticity, avoids internal cracking, and lays a foundation for subsequent piercing and rolling.

3. Piercing Process

The heated round billet is fed into a piercing mill. By oblique rolling and center piercing, the solid round billet is perforated into a hollow thick-walled shell pipe. Common equipment includes Mannesmann piercing mill and cone-type piercing mill. This is the key process to form the seamless inner hole.

4. Rolling and Wall Thickness Sizing

The pierced hollow pipe enters the continuous rolling mill or plug mill for wall thickness reduction and diameter preliminary forming. The outer diameter and wall thickness are controlled precisely to make the pipe wall uniform, eliminate internal loose structure and improve metal density and mechanical strength.

5. Sizing and Reducing Process

After rolling, the pipe goes through sizing mill and reducing mill to fix outer diameter and roundness. By continuous rotary rolling, the outer dimension reaches standard tolerance, ensuring straight pipe body and regular roundness without deformation.

6. Cooling and Straightening

The high-temperature seamless steel pipe is conveyed to the cooling bed for air cooling to normal temperature. After cooling, the pipe body may bend slightly, so it is sent to a straightening machine for multi-point straightening to ensure overall straightness for later cutting and use.

7. Fixed Length Cutting p>According to customer requirements and industry standards, the seamless pipe is cut into fixed length by cold saw cutting. The cutting section is flat without burrs, which facilitates later inspection, threading and construction installation.

8. Heat Treatment Technology

High-pressure, high-temperature and alloy seamless steel tubes need professional heat treatment, including normalizing, quenching and tempering. Heat treatment can improve tensile strength, impact toughness and pressure resistance, eliminate internal stress and make material performance stable.

9. Quality Inspection and Testing p>Finished seamless steel tubes undergo strict inspection: dimensional tolerance check, surface visual inspection, ultrasonic flaw detection, hydraulic pressure test, eddy current testing and chemical composition re-inspection. Defective products are eliminated strictly to ensure no crack, porosity or hidden quality danger.

10. Surface Treatment and Packaging p>According to demand, surface treatment such as rust removal, anti-rust oil coating, painting and galvanizing can be done. Finally, the pipes are bundled, marked with standard grade, specification, heat number and batch information, and packed for container delivery.
